On the job learning
As a Master of Teaching teacher candidate, you will gain a large amount of valuable practical experience, thanks to the importance we place on school placements (or centre placements for Early Childhood candidates). You will receive a high level of expert support while on placement, from the school or centre and from us.
Pratical Experience:
Through our partner schools, you will be given every opportunity to apply what you’ve learnt in lectures and tutorials to real life classrooms by:
- spending one or two days a week in your partner school or early childhood centre, starting from the first few weeks of semester
- attending fortnightly Professional Practice Seminars in your school or early childhood centre
- consolidating your teaching during a full-time placement each semester
Mentoring:
Hand-picked members of our professional practice team will guide you through your experience including:
- Your supervising teacher who will support, guide and monitor your transition from student to professional teacher.
- A teaching fellow who will work with the supervising teachers in your school to structure and refine your program.
- A clinical specialist, who will be the link between the university and the school that will shape you in your profession.
- The academic coordinator of your course who will supervise the program and knit it all together.
