Course Structure and Delivery
The core program comprises four semesters over two years and will prepare you to teach children aged 0–8 years, from early childhood settings to the early primary years.
You can choose to exit after the third semester with a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching, which will qualify you to teach in early childhood settings (children aged 0–5 years) only. In your fourth semester, you can choose from one of three options to gain the full Masters:
- Early Years: this option will grant you dual registration to teach in early childhood settings and primary schools
- Early Childhood (professional development): this option allows you to specialise in a particular area of interest, such as special education, and grants registration to teach in early childhood settings
- Early Childhood (research): this option gives you the chance to research a topic of interest, and grants registration to teach in early childhood settings
These options can be completed up to five years after completing the Postgraduate Diploma.
Career outcomes
All courses are approved by Early Childhood Australia and qualify you to work in children’s services in Australia. The Master of Teaching (Early Years) will also qualify you for provisional registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) as a primary teacher.
You may also choose to pursue a career in areas such as:
