Melbourne Graduate School of Education Breadth Subjects

Breadth Subjects - Year Level 3

Engaging youth: art/media/performance (EDUC30066)

Investigate the professional and community provision of cultural performance and artistic products for children and adolescents in the age of the ‘digital native’. A practical arts-based presentation is a core component of the subject, in which students learn about engagement through engaging with arts practice themselves.

Creativity, arts practice and community (EDUC30063)

Examine links between creativity and arts practice in adult communities, through workshops, seminars and fieldwork.  Assessment will take you into arts settings for observation, analysis and community arts practice.

Creativity and knowledge enhancement (EDUC30064)

This subject builds your understanding of the processes involved in creativity and knowledge enhancement.  It helps you apply creative thinking to your own tertiary studies, see topics from unique perspectives and realise your ability as a creator and innovator.

Note: this subject requires successful completion of ‘Knowledge, learning and culture’

Youth and popular culture (EDUC 30067)

Explore how children and young people construct and reconstruct their sense of self against the backdrop of popular culture; a crucial arena for both social control and for exploring the possibility of social transformation.

Ethics, gender and the family (EDUC30065)

Towards the end of the 20th century, feminist thinkers challenged the view that the family is a private domain. This subject uses alternative perspectives, such as ethics, gender and childhood studies, to explore how family members relate to each other as well as the rights of individual members.

Languages and school experience

For speakers of languages other than English, this subject gives you the chance to complete a voluntary placement as a Language Assistant in a Victorian school. Learn about contemporary approaches to languages education, and about our school system
